Dayton Historical Society
September 24, 2002
The September 24th meeting of the Dayton Historical Society was called to order by President Andy Cole at 6:40 PM. Fifteen people were in attendance. The Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports were read and accepted. The treasury balance was $2991.61.
Under old business: Andy handed out copies of the Dayton Town Seal as redrawn by Alden Cole. We decided to ask Alden if he would replace the boars’ heads with a line drawing that can be reproduced on a T-shirt.
We decided to have a four-foot wall poured for a foundation under the schoolhouse, as Dayton Sand and Gravel has offered to donate the concrete. Andy will contact the Code Enforcement Officer to see if we need a permit.
Members planned a work night for October 15th to clean out the cemetery at Rachael Smith’s and also to cover the school’s windows with plastic.
Under new business: Nancy suggested that it would be nice to thank those who have donated money by placing an article in the newspaper. Valerie agreed to write the article and look into having it published, and also to change the meeting notice in the newspaper.
John brought some information that he had found on the Internet concerning a movie that was filmed at the Union Falls Bridge in the 1930’s. He found a film company that may be able to provide outakes from that movie.
Jerry suggested that we should find Dayton’s oldest citizen and recognize him or her at a town meeting.
The next meeting was planned for 6:30 PM on October 29th at the Harris Farm Ski Hut. Meeting adjourned at 7:20 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Valerie Cole, Secretary
