DAYTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY
May 27, 2003
The May 27th meeting of the Dayton Historical Society was called to order by Amos Gay at 6:45 PM, with ten members present. The Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports were read and accepted, with a balance of $3211.35 in the checking account.
Under old business, Jon Coniaris agreed to take the “Oldest Citizen” cane to Creative Awards in Scarborough and select an engraved brass plate for it. The cost has been estimated at $10.
Valerie Cole presented an estimate from painter Ladd Huff for $2800. This would include scraping, nailing, and caulking as necessary, and priming and painting the building. Members decided that the foundation and exterior of the building should be repaired before the building is painted. John Gay reported that he had not yet heard from builder Jeremy Berube, but would keep trying to get in touch with him.
Under new business, members decided to organize a bake sale for Town Meeting. Members also decided to start a steering committee for planning the Town’s sesquicentennial. Those present were asked to put out the word to other groups and organizations in town. President Andy Cole will be the contact person.
The meeting adjourned at 7:35, and the next meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, June 24th, at the Schoolhouse.
Respectfully submitted,
Valerie Cole, Secretary
